The Prime/OS technique has a timeline, and the process is executed in segments. Each segment has a beginning, a middle and an end. Each segment in Prime/OS is called a chapter. At the beginning of each chapter, a consultant begins playing a specific role. This role is impermanent and temporary. At the end of the chapter, the role of the consultant changes. Specifically the authorization of the consultant is decreased in some way, typically through a role change. This decrease in the authorization of the consultant is an important aspect of how a sense of progress is developed across the organization.
